9 ways to bounce back after life gets you down

When the pressures of modern life start to get you down, step back and take a moment to get in touch with yourself. Here are nine simple ways to renew your body, mind and spirit. You’ll feel refreshed, re-energized and ready to take on the world again!

  1. Connect with Nature

There’s nothing quite like spending time in nature to revitalize yourself. Whether you go for a stroll in the park or embark on a camping adventure, connecting with Mother Nature grounds you mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It even grounds your physical energy especially when you go bare foot with the earth.

  1. Dance

Author and Professor William Watson Purkey is credited with the phrase, “You gotta dance like there’s nobody watching.” And it’s so true. Pure, free expressive dance without self-consciousness rids you of pent up energies and brings you back into balance. It’s great for your heart health too – both cardiovascular and emotional. You’ll feel joyful and uplifted. So pump up the radio and prance about the kitchen!

  1. Doodle

Remember how much fun it was to draw and colour when you were a child? Why not recapture that feeling now that you’re an adult? You don’t need any artistic ability at all – all you need to do is doodle! Get lost in creating lines, shapes and designs. Before you know it, those creative juices will flow!

  1. Garden

Gardening is a fun and healthy activity that can nourish you in so many ways. You get to move your body while enjoying the mental freedom that time in nature provides. Best of all your spirit will soar as you give tender loving care to your plants and seedlings. This is the best time of year to dig out the seed catalogues and get planning. What will you grow this year?

  1. Hug

Ever notice how something as simple as a hug can make you feel good all over? Hugging a friend or loved one can easily renew you and give you the strength and courage to face the challenges of life or simply get you through a tough moment.

  1. Meditate

You probably know all about the many benefits of meditation. From lowering blood pressure to communing with the Divine, carving out a little meditation time can definitely revive your body, mind and spirit.

Who says a nap equals laziness? Many high-powered, successful people take power naps. A mid day siesta can leave you feeling refreshed and improve your mental focus. Not to mention that a little midday dreaming can inspire you to go after your real life goals and dreams,

The power of words can inspire you to do many great things. From caring for your health to achieving personal goals, reading books can help. Even a fun fictional story can free your mind and take you to faraway places (Hogwarts) and improve your vocabulary. There’s no telling how a book can change your life.

  1. Sing

To go back to the words of William Watson Purkey, “Sing like there’s nobody listening.” A grand outburst of song is a fun release for body, mind and soul. It gets you breathing from the diaphragm while providing an endorphin boost. And there’s nothing like belting out a great tune to lift your spirits and leave your cares behind. My favourite place to sing is in the car on the motorway, you can’t beat 80’s power ballads for cleansing your throat chakra!
